A VILLAGE STRAIGHT OUT OF A PICTURE BOOK
Kirchdorf Wamberg
Kirchdorf Wamberg
IDYLLIC VILLAGE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN IMPRESSIVE MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPE
At around 1,000 meters above sea level lies Wamberg, one of the highest church villages in Germany with just under 30 residents. Up here, time seems to have stood still. Original architecture and nature everywhere. Healing tranquillity surrounds you and the view of the Wetterstein massif with the Alp and Zugspitze is breathtaking. In summer and winter alike, the idyllic village with its bavarian flair is a place to relax.
The farms from the 18th and 19th centuries emphasize the traditional village character. The church of St. Anna with its art-historically significant high altar, the work of sculptor Andreas Onich, is also worth a visit. The high altarpiece depicts "Anna selbdritt" - a Christian iconography depicting St. Anna, her daughter Mary and the infant Jesus.
How to get to the church village of Wamberg: Starting from the Eckbauer gondola valley station, you can reach the church village of Wamberg in around 40 minutes via a hiking trail. Another 45-minute walk leads from the clinic to the mountain village. The walk is worth it, we promise!
Tip for the winter: Look forward to hiking and sledding in the winter months, from the Eckbauer mountain station via Wamberg back to the Olympic ski stadium!
